India’s $10 laptop wasn’t pictured at its launch yesterday for a reason–it’s not even a laptop! The Mission on Education Programme responsible for putting the device together refused to say why the device was initially marketed as a laptop–try political votes–but the device is nothing more than a drive to store educational data than can be accessed by connecting it to a laptop. It was priced at $30 at the launch event yesterday, not $20 or $10, and funnier still is the fact that the Programme now claims the device could contribute to the manufacturing of a $60 laptop. Nothing like lies and bullshit under the guise of a beautifully humanitarian gesture.
