PR firms don’t usually write press releases for mobile phone launches that really emphasize location-based features. But that’s not the case with today’s HTC Touch Cruise announcement.
An update to the 2008 model, the 2009 Windows Mobile 6.1-powered Touch Cruise is a bit slimmer and compact and includes HTC Footprints, a geotagging application. Footprints basically creates a photo album of your movements (if you want it to of course), geotagging each picture you take and automatically naming it with the general location. It also enables you to attach an audio or text note to give the picture added context. One of the best features though is that the Touch Cruise’s assisted GPS technology allows the feature to work indoors as well as out. Typically mobile phones have a tough time acquiring a GPS satellite fix indoors.
In another innovative addition, HTC added a car cradle to the Touch Cruise so it can be used as an in-car GPS navigator. When placed into the cradle, the Touch Cruise senses its placement and changes the user interface to a one-click (using HTC’s TouchFlo technology) PND with turn-by-turn directions.
