Acer’s cash cow, the 8.9-inch Aspire One, that has led the company to be the number one netbook maker in the world may be on the way out.
Digitimes reports that Acer is planning to phase out the 8.9-inch model in order to focus on selling its new 10.1-inch netbook unveiled at CES. Supposedly Acer will replace the phased out netbook with an 8.9-inch enterprise model. What an enterprise netbook entails is an unknown, as most netbooks share very similar hardware.
The company is also reported to have a 10.1 inch enterprise netbook in the works as well. Both enterprise models are being manufactured by Quanta Computers while the new 10.1-inch consumer model is being built by Compal Electronics.
