amAze GPS app now supported by Huawei smartphones, iPhone and Android versions pending

amazelogo 124x65 amAze GPS app now supported by Huawei smartphones, iPhone and Android versions pendingFuture GPS-enabled Huawei smartphones will ship with native support for LocatioNet’s amAze application.  amAze will provide handset owners access to voice-guided, turn-by-turn navigation around the globe, and comprehensive details for over 200 large cities.  Some of the urban extras include high resoltion satellite imagery, weather conditions, points of interest and local directories.

amAze is ad-supported and will be released in iPhone and Android versions later this year.  It’ll be interesting to see how popular it becomes on the iPhone.  Over the last week or so, as turn-by-turn GPS apps hit the App Store, plenty of consumers are in a bit of an uproar over the misleading subscription pricing.

While, for example, Networks in Motion’s Gokivo app only costs $0.99 to purchase, it requires a $9.99 monthly payment in order to access turn-by-turn navigation.  An app like amAze that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg could find some success with Apple.  Currently the service supports over 500 Java and Windows Mobile handsets.
