Dow Jones is echoing a rumor started yesterday that Apple will launch a touchscreen netbook as early as the second half of 2009. Citing a pair of sources, Dow says the touchscreens, sourced from Wintek, will likely have a display size between 9.7 and 10 inches. The specifications and functions still have been decided, but Taiwan’s Quanta Computer is expected to be the manufacturer.
It’s tough to say if Apple will release a ‘netbook’ as we usually think of netbooks. Despite the fact that the PC industry is supposed to suffer massive contraction this year, driving mainstream consumers to lower-cost netbooks, Apple has maintained that it is not capable of designing a product with the low-end features typical of netbooks.
