At the end of Apple’s Q1 earnings yesterday, interim chief executive officer Tim Cook has this to say:
“We like competition as long as they don’t rip off our IP. And we’re going to go after anybody that does.”
An analyst followed this up by asking if Cook was referring to some of the features of the Palm Pre–like say multitouch, a feature in which Apple owns a fair share of intellectual property. Tim Cook responds:
“I’m making a general statement…We will not stand for having our IP ripped off.” And he continued to say Apple would use any “weapons at our disposal” in order to defend its patents.
Is the Palm Pre in trouble before it even launches, or is Apple just feeling threatened?
