Apple will own 40 percent of the global smartphone market by 2013: Generator Research

generator logo Apple will own 40 percent of the global smartphone market by 2013: Generator ResearchA report released today by Generator Research says that Apple will have a 40 percent share of the global smartphone market by 2013.  Why the bold prediction?

From a press release:

Outsiders are rewriting the mobile industry’s rulebook for how to deliver mobile services and the new rule #1 is that you need a fully-integrated service development platform that has a rich API which is open to third party developers on favourable commercial terms. Right now, Apple has the best platform and the best-looking forward roadmap,” says Andrew Sheehy, head of research at Generator.

Generator believes with cash reserves exceeding $25 billion, 33 percent gross margins, and the iPhone’s fastest growth phase still to come, Apple will be able to get “one or more design cycles ahead of the competition”, as most company’s are cutting back investments currently. In 2013 Generator estimates Apple will sell 77 million iPhone’s–of various models and form factors–worldwide, assisting in knocking Nokia down to a 20 percent global market share.  Of course, if Nokia could grab a piece of the American smartphone market, maybe it would stand a better chance.
