Not everyone is convinced that Intel’s Atom Z280 scheduled to launch later this year in the ASUS Eee PC 1004DN is anything special. Maybe this will change your mind. The 1004DN will have a built-in optical drive that will read and burn DVD’s and CD’s. Sorry, no Blu-ray yet, but this is a notable improvement.
Other than the 1.66 GHz Z280 processor, other 1004DN specs include a 10.2-inch display with 1024 x 600 pixels, 1 GB of RAM, a 160 GB hard disk drive, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi (notice the ‘n’), Bluetooth, 3 USB ports, and a VGA port. It will also have an improved chiclet-style keyboard which’ll hopefully make that famous ASUS Shift key less of a nuisance.
There is one major problem with the 1004DN though. It will only be available in Europe and China when it launches. ASUS doesn’t currently have plans for the North American market…damn. We’re still waiting on pricing details.
