There’s a widespread consensus that the One Laptop Per Child project kicked off the netbook fad, as ASUS and Acer were quick to build the mini-notebooks after the announcement of the first OLPC XO-1. Some don’t think so, but consider this.
OLPC’s next-generation XO-2 is a dual-screen device. And what does ASUS roll out at the CeBIT conference in Germany this week? A dual-screen device. In fact ASUS’ device works in four separate modes: laptop, e-book, cinema and artist. From what I’ve heard, the dual-screen device can run Windows 7, is touch-based and has a virtual keyboard.
It’s a prototype a the moment, albeit a working one if it can run Windows 7, but you can gather from history where ASUS intends to go with this one.
