ATT reveals 4G LTE network won’t be ready until 2011

AT&T revealed yesterday in Barcelona that its fourth-generation Long Term Evolution network won’t be commercially ready until 2011.  Previously the company had said it would be ready in 2010.  Verizon, which will also support the LTE standard, expects to begin trial runs later in 2009 and launch in 2010.  While this will put AT&T a bit behind, the wireless provider will upgrade its network to HSPA+ which supports maximum 20 Mbps download speeds, well above the 3G speeds available now.  LTE, which will directly compete with WiMAX, supports download speeds of up to 100 Mbps.
