Maybe I’m missing something here, but why didn’t Apple include turn-by-turn directions in the iPhone 2.2 firmware update released early this morning? TomTom wanted to jump on this one a long time ago but were prevented, so I think most of us assumed Apple was up to something. Are they or not?
The company did include a few new features of interest to navigation buffs though. Included:
- Google Street View in Google Maps
- Walking directions and public transit information in Google Maps
- Location sharing via email
- Dropping a pin on Google Maps will reveal the address
Interesting enough, although I’m not sure what’s up with the email location feature. Does anyone have an explanation for that one?
