medium Broadcom claims Android supporting, lowest powered GPS combo chip everLast week Broadcom announced Android support for one combo chip.  This week the semiconductor company is launching an entirely new combo chip altogether, again with Android support.  The Broadcom BCM2075 fits four radios on a single piece of silicon.  With the integration of GPS, Bluetooth, an FM receiver, and FM transmitter into a single chip, the BCM2075 is sure to appeal to handset manufacturers perpetually fighting to create smaller cellphones that have more features than ever before.

Broadcom says the chip, ideal for supporting location-based services, is a cost-effective solution for a variety of portable devices including PND’s, cellphones, and portable media players.  It includes a low-power ARM Cortex M3 processor and is backwards-compatible with its predecessor, the BCM2049.  The company also says that its unique method of time-slicing allows the chip to track GPS signals when the radio is off, resulting in the consumption of one-third the power of competing chips.  For all the deets, hit the read link below.
