LED Lighting To Provide Wi-Fi: Boston University is working on a new concept that could utilize LED lighting in your home to also provide your wireless network.  LED’s solid-state diodes would act as network nodes, providing a wireless connection more efficiently, and with more security as unlike RF signals light can’t pass through walls, etc.  Right now the problem is the researchers can only use the technology uni-directionally.  There isn’t a good way for devices like your mobile phone or television to receive light!

Xohm “Formally” Launches, But How Open Is It?: GigaOm’s Stacey Higginbotham questions whether Sprint’s WiMAX product approval process relegates the new wireless network to that of the ‘half-open’ and whether that could hamper its chances of knocking Wi-Fi to number two.

WiMAX Will Beat Economic Crisis:  That’s what Sprint CEO said today at the Xohm party in Baltimore.  After all wireless communication is indispensable these days, though he did acknowledge pricing structures may have to be adjusted.  Too bad your cellphone won’t support your retirement.

GeoEye-1 Sends Back First Image: Google’s GeoEye-1 satellite launched on September 6 has sent back its first image, and Kutztown University in Pennsyvania is the lucky object of observation.
