Dash Express June08 Update Completely Wireless, Brings Hot New Features

Dash Navigation, maker of the Dash Express and arguably the most innovative player in the navigation market at the moment, will be updating Dash Express users with the June08 Update wirelessly requiring absolutely no PC connection. Completely done over-the-air, the June08 Update adds some handy new features to the Express. MyRoute and Search Along Route are designed to ask questions such as “Where is the nearest coffee shop?” or “Are there any other options to this route?”, adding a touch of intelligence to the PND.
FasterFind reduces the time the Dash requires to attain a GPS fix on startup and maps are now drawn 50% faster than when the PND was first released. Now the Dash Express is definitely worth the reduced $299 price; we’re definitely impressed. Check out the press release after the jump…

Dash Express $299.99 All The Time Thanks To Sales Spikes Before Father’s Day
It’s damn exciting news to see that Silicon Valley-based Dash Navigation has moved the Dash Express into the PND pricing mainstream by lowering its pricetag to a penny less than $300 from its initial price of $400. This is all thanks to a Dads & Grads Father’s Day promotion that was an absolute hit. The price of the Dash Express was lowered to $299.99 for the promotion and sales spiked big time, prompting Dash to crunch the numbers and see the lower price point is a more effective one.
With the Dash Express being the first two-way connected PND on the market that uses cellular and WiFi modems to collect real-time traffic data and road speed conditions from Dash users as they drive, the Dash Express is the closest PND’s come to competing with the ever-stronger cellular navigation market which looks to be taking off, especially with the recent release of the 2nd generation iPhone.
With the new $299.99 price tag, the Dash Express is priced about average for a PND and with more users expected at the new price, the information Dash users obtain from their units will only get more accurate.
All excited and want one for yourself now? Head over to Amazon where it’s already $299.99.

Dash Opens Up API For Dash Express, Developers Can Now Build Applications
Dash has opened up the API for the hot new Dash Express so developers can develop their own applications for the GPS unit. So far a few apps are available including a homes-for-sale app from Coldwell Banker, a calendar app that can pull your appointments from Microsoft Outlook and then route you to them, a WeatherBug weather app, an app that locates speed traps from Trapster, and finally a Mediaguide app that’ll display all of the songs just played on local radio stations. Of course, CNET’s Crave blog points out that the Dash Express is by no means the most popular GPS unit on the market, although it’s definitely the neatest, and unless consumers get behind it interest in developing apps for it will wane fairly quickly. The other issue is safety in that developers without GPS experience may actually create applications that cause problems for drivers, whether it be because of distraction or otherwise. Dash is supposed to announce more about the open API today at the Where 2.0 conference, but in the meantime you can find available apps at MyDash.
