A Simple Fix For Your 3G iPhone GPS Problems

If you’re still having problems with GPS location issues on your new 3G Apple iPhone, an iPhoneAtlas has discovered an astute reader from Apple’s own discussion forums has figured out that turning off the 3G connectivity can actually fix the problem in many cases.  So if you’re in California and a location fix finds you in New York, try this fix:

  • Navigate to Settings>General>Network>Enable 3G and toggle to “OFF”
  • Locate yourself using the iPhone 3G’s GPS receiver
  • Navigate to Settings>General>Network>Enable 3G and toggle to “ON”

Those who’ve tried it seem to find that it works, and even better is the fact that if you turn the 3G back on after running the fix, accurate GPS results tend to persist in most cases.

How To Get GPS For The Original iPhone

June 9th is right around the corner, and that’s when we fully expect Apple’s Steve Jobs to introduce the 3G iPhone with GPS to the world.  If you just can’t wait that long or plan to stick with the original iPhone for awhile you can add GPS functionality to it using a Holux M1000b GPS unit, a custom dock-connector cable, and a software program you’ll need to install on your jailbroken iPhone.  You can get the whole package here for $100, and it seems to work fine judging from the demo YouTube vid above updating your position every second on iPhone’s Google Maps.  Personally though, I think I rather just wait for the new iPhone.
