TechCrunch Giving Away Free Dash Express For Nothing But Creativity

Interested in getting your hands on a Dash Express without forking out the cash? Head over to TechCrunch where a Dash is up for grabs, and for nothing more than a good idea. Submit your best app idea in the comments by midnight PST on Saturday; or if you really, really want the big prize submit a developed app to up your chances.

The device, provided by Dash and Trulia, isn’t the only prize though. A couple of runners-up will get TechCrunch t-shirts for their contributions, and hey don’t complain, you’re not paying for them.

Dial Directions Goes On A Rampage, Secures Voice-Entry Partnerships With Evite, Dash Navigation, And deCarta…And Debuts Say Where iPhone App

Dial Directions, a provider of voice-entry technology for mobile, has been on an announcement rampage lately.

At the end of August the company announced they’d partnered with Evite to provide free voice-activated directions to events. Evite is a social event planning service that allows you to send out virtual invites. They also have a Send-To-Phone feature which text’s event details to guests’ mobile devices. With the new Dial Directions functionality, Send-To-Phone also provides a phone number to call to specify your location, and in return you’ll receive turn-by-turn directions to the event via SMS. There’s a demo in the video above.

On Monday at DEMO, Dial Directions debuted their Say Where iPhone application, allowing iPhone users to use their voice to retrieve location information from services such as Yelp, MapQuest, Traffic.com and the Yellow Pages. The app hasn’t been approved by Apple yet, but when it is it’s expected to be free. Combining the popularity of the iPhone with the growing popularity of hands-free technologies like Bluetooth looks to mean this will be one successful application when it finally hits the App store.

Finally, today Dial Directions announced that Dash Express owners will be able to call 1-DIRECTIONS, speak a destination into a mobile phone and their GPS device will find a route to the destination without any hands-on interaction. Not only does it work in car, it works remotely as well. Dash owners just have to register their phone number on the company’s website.

Dial Directions is also partnering with deCarta to provide voice-entry to the company’s geospatial software platform, Connected Navigation Services.

Ease-of-use is key in the navigation market and Dial Directions looks to be providing a premium service that we’re sure will branch out significantly in the future.
