Take A Look At The Playstation Portable GPS Add-On

If you don’t already know, the Playstation Portable is getting a GPS add-on that plugs right into the top of the unit. First announced earlier this year at CES 2008 in Las Vegas, the PSP GPS could have an added car kit and adapter in the near future. Games and navigations in one neat little package. Wow! Look for the PSP GPS to hit shelves in August.

MeLE GMT-600 PMP With GPS

The MeLE GMT-600 is one of the latest Chinese-manufactured GPS-capable PMPs. Featuring a 480×272 pixel widescreen 4.3-inch LCD display, the MeLE GMT-600 has a 2.5-inch HDD with 160 GB of storage space, a three-in-one SD, MMC and MS slot, MPEG 1/2/4, XviD, VOB, AVI and MPG codec support and the ability to playback DVD’s. Another unverified feature is component outputs capable of upscaling video to high-def 720p/1080i resolution. Oh, and of course GPS functionality.
So far no pricing or availability details have been released, but MeLE is apparently looking for distributors outside of China. Could we see this in North America soon?

Archos 605 GPS Brings Navigation To Your PMP
Archos, known for its high-end portable media players, just added GPS to their resume with the announcement of the Archos 605 GPS. Looks like this is the Archos announcement we were expecting tomorrow. A combination of the Archos 605 wireless media player and navigational unit, the Archos 605 GPS uses a SiRFStar III receiver chip embedded in a car cradle, in which once the PMP is docked, supplies traffic directions and more advanced features typically only seen on higher-end dedicated GPS units such as live traffic updates, accident reports, and even routing estimation should the unit fail to maintain its satellite lock.
Not only will the Archos 605 GPS be shipped in May with 30GB of memory priced at $400, current owners of the Archos 605 PMP will also be able to purchase the add-on separately for $130. Expected to be shipped globally, North American users will receive preloaded maps of North America with the Archos 605 GPS as well as maps of both Europe and China.
