Alpine is said to be cutting 2, 500 jobs in Japan and abroad with the overall goal of cutting its global corporate structure by 30 percent.  Senior level employees and management will also take pay cuts of 20 to 35 percent.  Alpine says it will cut expenses enough to remain profitable with a 30 percent sales reduction.  The company is working to expand its lineup of entry-level GPS navigators.

Clarion will cut its fixed costs by 30 percent according to the Nikkei report, in addition to cutting its research and development costs by the same amount.  Clarion has been forced to spend more in R & D recently in order to add new features to GPS navigation systems, but will reduce costs by cutting the number of models and shipping development overseas.

Clarion would not confirm or deny the report in speaking with Twice.
