It was a rather ironic event at the end of December when the folks from jkOnTheRun came across a netbook word trademark from Coby. Why? Because the company was adamant it wasn’t developing netbook devices. It was a big surprise then when Engadget reported that they’d come across not one Coby netbook at CES, but a slew of Atom-based configurations in six different color options. Now Coby isn’t exactly a high-end brand name and Engadget seemed to confirm that the netbooks didn’t exactly scream out functionally awesome, but you have to admire the sub-$200 price point. Coby is maintaining that this is just a “market research project”, but I’m guessing they’ll hit the market sooner or later.
