Computer Technology Link’s 2go Convertible Classmate PC is the first netbook based on Intel’s recently announced Classmate PC reference design for manufacturers. The 2go has a clamshell form factor that can convert from a traditional notebook design with keyboard entry to a resistive touchscreen tablet by flipping over the display. When in notebook form, the screen has a 180 degree swivel display while the tablet touchscreen has a “palm rejection” feature that allows a child to rest their palm on the display in order to write more naturally.
The 2go Classmate PC is built for students and younger children, folding into something of a carrying case with a handle when not in use. It can also easily fit in a backpack, and its waterproof and shock-resistant design is well-suited to the typical young person. Sporting an 8.9-inch color LCD display, the 2go runs on a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor and operates either Windows XP or Linux. It comes with 1 GB of built-in memory with a 2 GB option, and features a 60 GB PATA hard disk drive, SD/MMC card slot, and USB 2.0 support. Connectivity includes 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, and the 2go Classmate PC includes a built-in accelerometer, a pair of integrated speakers, a camera and stylus. Its 6-cell battery lasts for an average of 5 hours.
