In a time when location-based services and GPS devices are becoming ever more feature-rich and sophisticated, it can be nice to return to the basics.  That seems to be the idea underlying the design of the Dandella, a GPS-like tracking device created by Yong-kai Tan and Priscilla Lui, students of the Design Incubation Centre in Singapore.

Dandella simplifies the familiar interface of today’s GPS navigators to the notion of ‘just follow where it points.’  The lightweight device lights up and points in the direction of a companion Dandella, or can synchronize with GPS-enabled mobile phones to track physical locations.  According to the designers, this makes it a simple way to, for example, find a missing friend in a crowded mall.
