The UK’s DataWind will be shipping the third-generation of its PocketSurfer portable media player this August.

Actually available in two models–PocketSurfer3 and PocketSurfer3 Lite–the DataWind devices have a GPRS connection and an embedded SIM card for mobile data access.  30 hours of internet access per month in the UK is included while GPRS roaming in the United States or elsewhere in Europe costs £0.05 ($0.08) per minute.

If you’re interested in unlimited access it’ll cost you £5.99 ($9.75) per month or a one-time fee of £59.99 ($98) while will cover you for 12 months.  After that the annual one-time fee drops to £29.99 ($49).

The PocketSurfer3 features a 5-inch 640 x 240 pixel display and also has a new page compression system for quicker page loading times.  Unfortunately the devices don’t support bandwidth-heavy applications like Youtube.  As for the difference between the standard and Lite models, DataWind hasn’t really said yet.  I’m guessing a Lite model would at the very least scrap the GPS sensor though.

The PocketSurfer3 and PocketSurfer3 Lite will cost £199.99 and £159.99, respectively.
