Dell has officially launched its 12.1-inch Latitude XT2 convertible tablet PC, successor to the Latitude XT. We already knew a fair amount about the specs as Dell slipped a partial product page up early, but of most importance is the capacitive multitouch support out of the box. The Latitude XT2 is only the second notebook model after HP’s TouchSmart tx2 to feature a multitouch screen. Both use technology supplied by Israel’s N-trig, which recently raised $24 million for touchscreen development in a round led by Microsoft. There is also a second digitizer so the XT2 will work with an included stylus, a handy feature for tasks such as drawing when in tablet form.
Aside from the touch support, the base model of the Latitude XT2 bundles in a 1.2 GHz Core 2 Duo ULV processor, 1 GB of DDR3 RAM, 80 GB 5400 RPM SATA hard drive, Wi-Fi, ethernet, Bluetooth, 54mm ExpressCard/SD slot, and an external media bay for DVD/CD or a second hard drive.
Options exist for most of the specifications so the Latitude XT2 can be tailored for any combination of working needs. There is also a 1.4 GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 5 Windows Vista choices, up to 5 GB of RAM, 4/6-cell batteries, and solid state drive options.

Dell’s website doesn’t currently list prices, likely because of the wide variety of choices.
