Texting and driving? A big no-no. Talking on the cellphone and driving? Also a big no-no. So a ban on playing with your GPS device and driving is probably coming sooner or later–starting with New Jersey. L. Harvey Smith, a Democrat from Jersey City introduced a bill on June 8 that would only allow voice-activated programming on GPS devices while driving. With newer Bluetooth-enabled devices this won’t be a big problem, but for those averse to Bluetooth and the higher GPS prices it brings, finger tapping the touchscreen would result in a fine of $100.
While plenty of people will oppose this, I don’t. Being on the road with a distracted driver isn’t the best of situations and a law like this will likely save lives. Would you oppose this? Why?
