I’ve never been to New York City, but I’m sure if you ask any New Yorker that takes the subway if it’s a pain in the ass, they would agree. Because subway stations can be so long, being on the wrong end of a train can mean a several minute jaunt to the right exit. Not a good situation to be in if you’re late for work.
NYC startup, Exit Strategy NYC, is aiming to make the process easier with a new mobile application with “detailed maps of 200 of the city’s subway stations,” according to The New York Times’ City Room blog.
The app, which requires a maximum of three touches to accomplish your mission, shows you how subway doors lineup with their respective stairwells. That way you can position yourself correctly when entering and exiting a train. No more long jaunts. The application even takes into consideration stations that have multiple trains of different lengths.
The Exit Strategy NYC application goes on sale today for the iPhone, Android, Blackberry and the Kindle. All are priced at $1.99 except for the Blackberry app which costs a dollar more. But sorry folks, no Palm Pre app yet.
