Facebook joins Swine Flu mapping pandemic

Facebook has joined the Swine Flu mapping phenomenon, a pandemic in itself, with the release of graphs showing how the discussion of Swine Flu is spreading through the social network.

Using Lexicon, a Facebook tool that analyzes language trends in Wall posts and status updates, Facebook shows how Swine Flu discussion has grown and varied depending on geography.  Unfortunately the Lexicon available to you and me doesn’t support geo-data, so we can’t create informative maps like these.

The results aren’t really that surprising though.  Swine Flu discussion is more prevalent among American Facebook updates, especially in states where cases of Swine Flu have been confirmed.  Canadians aren’t too worried at the moment, while those in the United Kingdom lie somewhere in between.
