Flickr for iPhone, Android now location aware

flickr nearby photos Flickr for iPhone, Android now location aware

Yahoo’s photosharing property Flickr has taken advantage of the recent iPhone 3.0 update and its geolocation-capable Safari browser to create a mini version of its nearby photo viewer.  Because the new Safari browser incorporates the W3C’s Geolocation API, it can detect a users location and adjust content based on the greater contextual awareness.  The nearby photo viewer is a standalone app that is built with the mobile phone in mind, but the functionality then, can be accessed via the web browser as well.

The photo viewer, which is also now available for Android phones, detects your location and returns recent pictures taken near you in thumbnail format.  I’m sure that over the next few months Flickr will add new features that enable search, filtering and other options for sorting through photos.
