FLIR Systems’ Navigator II will be on display at CES 2009. The thermal imaging camera is a sensible addition to any marine navigation system. Using military-grade thermal technology, the Navigator II allows you to see land outcroppings, other boats, and similar hazards perfectly in the darkness of night. Built into a waterproof enclosure meant for outdoor use, Navigator II uses Accu-Point, a position and control display feature that provides visual feedback of where the imager is aimed. It can be controlled via 2 joysticks–one with the camera and another placed elsewhere on the boat–so you can pan and tilt a full 360 degrees around your marine craft. Imagery can be viewed on any display with a basic video input–NTSC or PAL–all taken through a wide angle, 36 degree lens. I’m not exactly sure of pricing information for the Navigator II as it’s not displayed on the company’s website. But I’d put my money on expensive.
