It turns out the Ford In-Dash Computer “has an app for that,” so to speak. In collaboration with tool manufacturer DeWalt, Ford created Tool Link. It’s an RFID-based product that enables workers to keep tabs on all of those expensive construction tools usually kept unattended in the back of a Ford truck.
Tool Link comes with 50 RFID tags that can be attached to tools, an RFID scanner, and software for creating a database of the goods. Once the software is installed, users can keep track of which tools have been removed from the truck via a dedicated interface through the In-Dash Computer. Tool Link costs $1, 120, which is nearly the same as the In-Dash Computer itself. But given the cost of a truck full of tools, it’s probably a good investment for the dedicated construction worker.
