Foxconn to pick up Apple netbook contract?

led_cinemaBack in January when Apple’s acting chief executive Tim Cook attempted to debunk the long-running Apple netbook rumors, I was leaning toward believing what he was saying.  To me, it didn’t make sense for a company known for producing extremely high-quality products to dilute its brand by releasing a netbook.  At least a netbook as we define it now–1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor, blah, blah, blah.

But my opinion has slowly changed.  Especially as revealing evidence from publications known to be reliable has emerged.  A touchscreen tablet patent, and both Taiwan’s Commercial Times and Dow Jones corroborating the other’s story that a 9.7 inch to 10 inch Apple netbook would launch in Q3 2009.

This morning, Taiwan’s Commercial Times again reported that an Apple, specifically a Mac, netbook would launch in Q3.  This time Foxconn, a long-time Apple manufacturer is reported to be a frontrunner for the netbook contract.  It’s not Quanta so there is some discrepancy there, but it appears Apple hasn’t made a final decision yet either.  Unfortunately a  translation from Digitimes didn’t include any other details, but the Apple netbook rumors continue.
