Garmin announced today the next generation of the nuvi 200 series-the Enhanced 2×5 series. The low-priced models improve upon the features of the nuvi 200 line while adding improved mapping and routing, faster and more accurate satellite reception, FM traffic updates, picture navigation and connection with MSN Direct. The picture navigation feature uses photos from Google’s Panaramio photo-sharing community via the Garmin Connect Photos website. Users can upload geo-located photos to the various models of the nuvi 2×5 series for a more visual navigation experience.
The 2×5 series is available in 4.3-inch and 3.5-inch sizes with a new elevation mapping display, features a 333MHz microprocessor, and Garmin’s proprietary HotFix functionality which stores critical satellite information and then accesses stored information rather than waiting for a satellite signal. This greatly improved the processing time of the nuvi 2×5 series.
The nuvi 2×5 series consists of 4 new models-255, 255W, 205, and 205W. The nuvi 255 and 255W offers mapping for North America, Australia, and New Zealand while the nuvi 205 and 205W will be aimed at the American, Canadian and European markets. Suggested prices are below:
- nuvi 205-$321
- nuvi 205W-$375
- nuvi 255-$320
- nuvi 255W-$373
