Garmin Approach G5 handheld golf GPS gets reviewed

garmin approach g5 150x150 Garmin Approach G5 handheld golf GPS gets reviewedGarmin’s Approach G5 handheld golf GPS has been reviewed by the prolific PCMag folks, and despite doing “what it sets out to do” and being “a strong performer on the course,”  it’s not currently the best choice in the golf GPS market.  But you already know that as the title has fallen to Callaway’s uPro.

The Approach G5 does have its advantages though.  Not only does it carry the quality Garmin name, but it has a 3-inch touchscreen, a rugged and waterproof casing, 8, 800 preloaded golf course maps for the US, and a 15 hour battery life with lithium batteries.

Contrast that with the Callaway uPro which has a 2.2-inch display with no touch sensitivity, a smaller, unprotected casing, and a 10 to 12 hour battery life.  With the uPro you also have to download the course maps you want online, but there are also many, many more courses to choose from.

The Garmin Approach G5 is no doubt a solid golf GPS handheld but with a $450 price tag it seems the Callaway uPro is still the way to go.
