The newly minted partnership between Garmin and Asus has resulted in the announcement of the Garmin-Asus nuviphone M20.
Built for the business crowd, the nuviphone M20 features a 2.8-inch TFT touch display, dual-band 3.5G/tri-band GSM, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, full QWERTY touch keyboard, Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, an accelerometer enabling portrait/landscape display and zooming/panning, and a desktop-like web browser. ActiveSync allows for synchronization with Microsoft Outlook and Office, and users have the option of 4 GB or 8 GB of built-in My Storage memory. A built-in microphone and speakers further allow for multimedia playback.
Being an LBS-centric handset, the nuviphone M20 offers navigational functionality identical to the Garmin nuvi line of GPS devices. That includes preloaded maps of North America, Western and Eastern Europe and other launch regions. It also includes voice-guided turn-by-turn direction, millions of POI’s, and Connected Services. Connected Services is an online database of applications that include content like real-time traffic information, weather, local events, and the White Pages.
All of the on-phone business applications like email, calendar, and contacts are automatically tagged with location information allowing for more accurate scheduling and one-click navigation to any contact or address.
The Garmin-Asus nuviphone M20 will be on display at Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress beginning on February 16, at which time hopefully there will be a pricing and availability announcement. But expect a release in the first half of 2009.
