Garmin Edge 500: A cyclist’s statistically navigational dream

If you’re looking for a performance cycling GPS unit, Garmin’s Edge 500 packs in more features than any other bike GPS I’ve seen.  The tiny unit, built based on recommendations from the Tour de France-racing Team Garmin, packs in a GPS receiver with HotFix technology, requires no calibration, and is ANT+ compatible so it can sync with third-party power meters, Garmin cadence sensors and heart rate monitors.

The 2 ounce Edge 500 measures everything a cyclist could possibly want to measure: speed, distance, time, GPS position, elevation, calories burned, climb and descent (enhanced by a barometric altimeter), temperature, time zone, and more.  It also features a lengthy 18 hour battery life and a handlebar mount designed with aerodynamics in mind.  It has a USB interface for charging and PC data transfer.

The Garmin Edge 500 has a suggested retail price of $249.99, or combined with a heart rate monitor and cadence sensor, $349.99.
