Garmin’s nuvi 1490T, announced this morning, is the latest addition to the company’s ever-growing nuvi family.  The GPS device has a 5-inch display and according to Garmin is 25 percent thinner than most other nuvi models.  Its slimmer and lighter form factor makes it a decent choice for pedestrian navigation, especially when used with Garmin’s CityXplorer maps which are available for most popular tourist destinations in North America and Europe.

The nuvi 1490T includes other popular Garmin innovations as well including EcoRoutes.  EcoRoutes chooses routes that use the least fuel depending on what vehicle is being driven, and complements the “faster time” and “shorter distance” routing preferences.  Other features include free lifetime NAVTEQ Traffic updates, lane assist with junction views, Bluetooth, multidestination routing for up to 10 routes at a time, automatic time zone transitions, and both speed limit and road sign information.

The Garmin nuvi 1490T is shipping in July 2009 with a suggested retail price of $499.99.  CityXplorer maps cost $9.99 to $14.99 depending on the city.
