Garmin nuvi 465T GPS with NAVTEQ Traffic

Garmin’s nuvi 465T, announced this morning, is the company’s first GPS device designed specifically for long haul and delivery drivers.  The 4.3-inch touchscreen unit allows drivers to enter their vehicle dimensions so routing can be customized to avoid low-flying bridges, narrow roads, and other hazards.  Moreover, the nuvi 465T includes the National Truck and Trailer Services (NTTS) Breakdown directory which is a comprehensive guide of semi-truck repair facilities and over 30, 000 heavy duty towing services.  Drivers can pinpoint searches of the directory if, for example, they only need a tire change or a specific replacement part.

The majority of the other features of the nuvi 465T are common across most of the nuvi xxxT line.  Specifications include pre-loaded NAVTEQ maps of the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, viewable in 3 dimensions or the typical 2 dimensional overhead view.  Fully functional voice-guided, turn-by-turn directions with spoken street names allows drivers to keep their eyes on the highway ahead, assisted by handsfree Bluetooth with compatible mobile phones.  Speed limits are displayed for most roadways, time zone transitions are automatically changed, and upcoming road conditions are previewed so truckers can be aware of steep curves, hills, and other hazards.

Of course, being a T model, the nuvi 465T has subscription-free, real-time traffic updates for life supplied by NAVTEQ Traffic.  The Garmin nuvi 465T is expected to hit stores sometime in the second quarter of 2009 priced at $499.95.
