Garmin’s rumored update to its Oregon series appears to be confirmed, as a UK retailer is displaying the Garmin Oregon 500 GPS handheld as “coming soon” to its line of GPS products.
The Garmin Oregon 500 GPS handheld includes a 3-inch, 240 x 400 pixel color touchscreen display, support for AA battery power, an IPX7 waterproof rating, a basemap included in 850 MB of built-in memory with the ability to upload maps, and a microSD card slot. With the built-in memory alone, the Oregon 500 can store 100o waypoints, 50 routes, and a 10000 point or 20 route GPS tracklog.
In addition, the Garmin Oregon 500 includes automatic routing, a barometric altimeter, an electronic compass, a geocaching mode with outdoor GPS games, an hunting/fishing calendar, a sun/moon chart, BlueChart g2 Vision tide charts, and more.
One of the best features in my opinion is the built-in digital camera which automatically geotags pictures. Overall it seems the Garmin Oregon 500 is similar to a nuviphone without the calling features.
Currently the Garmin Oregon 500 GPS handheld is listed on the Handtec website for £353.97 including VAT.
