Garmin recalls BlueChart g2, g2 Vision marine data cards due to bad data

g2vision 150x150 Garmin recalls BlueChart g2, g2 Vision marine data cards due to bad dataHere’s something you don’t see everyday: Garmin is voluntarily recalling its 2009 BlueChart g2 and g2 Vision marine cartography data cards.  It has been reported that the data cards, sold between April 8, 2009 and June 3, 2009, misrepresent water depths in some areas.  Right now it appears that the inaccuracies only affect boaters off the coasts of Sweden and Denmark, but if a ship ran aground because of this, good ol’ Garmin would be in some serious hot water.

The company says that the 2009 version of the BlueChart g2 in Garmin proprietary card format, the BlueChart g2 in microSD/SD card format and the BlueChart g2 Vision in microSD/SD card format are all affected and should not be used for navigation.  If you’re affected by the recall, Garmin will replace the 2009 cards free of charge with a BlueChart or BlueChart g2 Vision v2008.5.  Once the data mistakes are corrected, the company plans to offer the updated 2009 version free of charge as well.

Garmin has all the details.
