It was a total failure. After spending an hour winding through tiny villages having to slow down to 30 mph every couple of miles I got fed up and put it back onto "fastest route". Which I'm fairly sure ended up being more economical as it took me back to roads where a steady speed is normal. I tried the “less fuel” setting a few days ago. It was a total failure.
