Working out in the field can do damage to mobile devices. They need to rugged to be mobile or they will never survive. Enter the General Dynamics Itronix GD6000 notebook.
Built specifically for mobile workers, whether field technicians or the fuzz, the GD6000 sports integrated GPS in combination with WWAN cellular connectivity, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. Featuring a nicely sized 13.3-inch DynaVue touchscreen display, the GD6000 is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 processor, up to 4 GB of RAM, and a 120 GB hard drive.
The 6.2 pound device meets the strict MIL-STD 810F standards, ensuring its operation won’t cease due to temperature, water, dust, shock or vibration. Basically all the things that will do you in instead. The GD6000 also sports a couple of task lights and a light-up keyboard for working in the dark and quick launch buttons for emergency applications. The EnergyStar and EPEAT-certified notebook has Trusted Platform Module 1.2 and optional Computrace software for added security.
I’m not sure what the pricing looks like for the GD6000, but my guess is that if you don’t have access to a big company payroll, you won’t be able to afford one.
