General Dynamics Itronix has announced the GD8000 notebook, joining the GD6000 in its 2009 rugged notebook line.
Built for extreme conditions such as those faced by military personnel, the GD8000 features MIL-STD-810F military specifications, withstanding 30 gallons of water blown at the notebook at 40 miles per hour over 4 hours, and multiple 42-inch drops onto concrete.
Specs include a 13.3-inch DynaVue touchscreen display, Intel Core 2 Duo SL9400 processor with 4 GB of DDR3 memory and a 120 GB hard drive, as well as an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD graphics processor. EnergyStar and EPEAT-certified, the 7.9 pound GD8000 has a variety of connectivity options including Gobi 2000 WWAN, 802.11 WLAN, GPS, and optional Bluetooth. The GD8000 also features Trusted Platform Module 1.2 and optional Computrace software for security.
Overall, the General Dynamics GD8000 is similar to the GD6000 aside from being slightly heavier and sporting a few additional features like an optional backlit keyboard, an impressive 10 hour battery life, as well as fingerprint and smartcard readers.
