geosentriclogo GeoSentric granted patent for friend finding via Gypsii appGeoSentric has been awarded a patent by the European Patent Office for a key feature of its Gypsii location-based mobile social network.  The European Union-wide patent covers the “transmission of location-based information between devices and the subsequent publishing of that information for viewing on a map,” according to a press release.  The release goes on to say that the patent covers what we tend to call “friend finding”.  This patent seems pretty broad to me, especially given the number of other companies that offer friend finding services in the European market.

Today’s patent is accompanied by five others that apply the same or related technology to alternative markets such as fleet management, field operations and emergency services.  The technology is also embedded in GeoSentric’s TWIG mobile telematics product line.
