getac v100 converted Getac V100 rugged GPS notebook gets reviewed: exceptionally strong choice

Back in September 2008, Getac announced the rugged V100 notebook.  And it’s not just rugged looking.  It has a magnesium alloy chassis with rubber bumpers.  But while it’s not the prettiest thing in the world–and it’s not supposed to be–it had one feature that blew me away.  The 1200 nit display, in theory, is bright enough to see easily in direct, blinding sunlight.

The folks from TabletPCReview recently put the V100 though the review rounds and I was interested in what they had to say about the display.  It is bright, said the reviewer, but with a high maximum brightness also comes a high minimum brightness.  That can be a real pain in the butt if you’re using the V100 in low-light conditions.  I have a issue with the brightness of my Aspire One in low-light, so I couldn’t even imagine the headaches the V100 could cause.

I was also hoping the review would take a look at the optional GPS functionality offered with the V100, but that was a no go.  Overall though, TabletPCReview said aside from some minor design glitches that were more inconvenience than problem, the Getac V100 “is an exceptionally strong choice.”
