I have to admit I’ve never been a huge fan of skateboarding–as a participant or spectator. It just doesn’t fulfill that need for adventure in me and it never really has. So I wouldn’t bother to take a look at a skateboarding application for the iPhone. That’s why it’s a good thing ZDNet’s Jennifer Leggio did. It turns out that a skateboarding app can have location-based features.
GoLearn Skateboarding, developed by Whagaa Software, the Santa Cruz Skate Shop and 47 Project’s Rich Harris, has a GPS Skate Park Locator. By determining your location using the iPhone’s GPS, GoLearn can point you to nearby skate parks with thousands of locations mapped across the United States. Find a park you like and you can get driving directions on a map. Pretty cool, eh?
Aside from the LBS feature, GoLearn Skateboarding has features for beginners and experienced boarders alike. Over 45 videos offer detailed instruction related to a variety of tricks–is that what you call them? The Street section includes ollies, rails, stairs, curbs and more; the Park section includes bowls, rails and airs; and the Skateboard Mechanic includes video demonstrations of all the proper board maintenance you’ll ever need to know.
GoLearn Skateboarding is available from the App Store for $4.99.
