Google Earth for iPhone 2.0

Google has release Google Earth version 2.0 for the iPhone today, one year after it first announced Earth 1.0 would be available. In the second version several new features are available, most significantly being the addition of custom maps from within My Maps. This means that you can either view your custom maps or those others have created directly from the iPhone interface.

As more information becomes available from within Google Earth, whether it be business listings or Wikipedia articles, it can be tough to pick the right icon on a small screen like the iPhone. To make Google Earth 2.0 more usable, Google has added a visible glow for each icon when touched so you know if you’ve tapped the right one. If you’ve accidentally touched more than one icon, the app will go to text-based list of all the icons touched so you can pick the right one.

Finally, Google Earth version 2.0 for the iPhone is available in more languages than ever before. A full 31 languages in fact–all of which you can see at the Google LatLong blog. You can download the app here.
