Tom Berge plead guilty yesterday to theft in a London court after he committed a 6-month-long theft spree in which he stole lead roof tiles.  Berge is said to have used Google Earth to find South London churches, schools and museums with lead roof tiles.  Once he found a suitable target–lead roof tiles are darker than normal tiles on Google Earth–he would head to the building, scale it, take the lead tiles and sell them as scrap metal.

Authorities in London said the theft of lead, worth a fair chunk of change as scrap metal, has dropped significantly in the city since Berge’s arrest.
