Google Maps for mobile just got a big upgrade, now featuring the same Google Street View pics you’re able to access on your desktop. The street-level imagery Street View offers adds a new dimension to POI search, allowing you to confirm a searched location as being the right one by visual recognition.
This isn’t the only new feature though. Now you can read business reviews, and access walking directions to anywhere you might want to go. Google claims that search speed is improved and location accuracy improved thanks to a My Location update earlier this week.

That blue circle that’s part of My Location used to be the same size in both urban and rural regions, but Google has apparently developed algorithms that better gauge the coverage area of cell towers. In urban areas there tends to be more towers to service more users, but in rural areas there tends to be less cell phone towers. So, in urban areas you’ll see a smaller circle, while in rural areas it’ll be larger with a center focus closer to your true location.
The new My Location update doesn’t require any action on your part, it’s automatic; but let us know how it works in the comments.
