Google today announced it has added points of interest to Google Maps, using icons and labels to pinpoint local businesses and interesting places so you can see what’s around you. Click on an icon and you’ll be able to see a summary of what a place is about, plus have access to content such as pictures, reviews and Wikipedia articles.
This is such a great feature for those who use Google Maps to orient themselves in new cities. For instance, once you’ve booked into your hotel for the latest business conference, you’ll be able to see what there is to see and do nearby right from the Google Maps interface–no extra searching required.
