Friendfeed Gets A Little Location Information With Google Maps

Apps

It gets me so excited whenever a major social web platform attempts to integrate any type of location-based feature.  While the mobile web and location-based applications are incredible in themselves, I don’t know if they’ll ever achieve the user base of the traditional web.  That’s why I’ve argued time and time again that the major location-based players in the mobile sphere will be those that make the transition from the old web, for lack of a better name.  Although I do concede that companies like Loopt and uLocate Communications are doing a great job of proving me wrong by partnering with not only service providers, but hardware manufacturers in order to further their platforms.

Anyways, segue into the real story here.  One of my favorite web platforms, FriendFeed, has quietly added a little location context to posts with location information and aggregated geotagged feeds like those from Brightkite.  Basically, should you update your location, or for example, post an advertisement with location information, Friendfeed will show a small Google Map pinpointing your location.

Oh, and if you want you can follow me on Friendfeed here.
