An ingenious project by scholar David Van Sickle and biomedical engineering students from the Department of Population Health Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison may soon be able to pinpoint geographical areas with recurring asthma attack outbreaks. The project, still in its initial stages, will supply trial participants with rescue inhalers equipped with GPS sensors in order to pinpoint the exact location of asthma attacks. By cross-referencing the location with information gathered from other other devices, Van Sickle hopes that one day he’ll be able to detect dangerous locations and trends that previously went undetected in asthma research. If you’re interested in participating in the trial and are at least 18 years old, you can call 608-261-1036 or email asthmap@mailplus.wisc.edu for more information.
